In 2024, Towngas and Foran Energy formed a strategic partnership to establish VENEX, a company dedicated to the production and application of green fuels and chemicals.

VENEX is built on complementary strengths: Towngas brings extensive international energy operating experience along with green methanol technology and certification expertise, while Foran Energy contributes its capabilities in local resource integration, policy coordination, and market development.

Towngas (The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited): Founded in 1862, Towngas is one of Hong Kong's largest public utility companies. Its core business includes city gas supply and pipeline gas services, while actively expanding into new energy ventures such as hydrogen and green methanol. In recent years, Towngas has invested in green methanol production bases in Inner Mongolia and obtained international certifications (ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS, ISO 14067, GSTC), enabling global delivery capability.

Foran Energy: Founded in 1993 and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (002911) in 2017, is a leading integrated energy service provider in China. The company operates across natural gas, petrochemicals, hydrogen, thermal energy, solar PV, energy storage, and green methanol, with a strong focus on green energy investment.

VENEX currently operates a methanol production facility in Inner Mongolia and is advancing the construction of a green methanol plant in Foshan. Upon completion, the green methanol produced will be strategically transported to bunker storage facilities in Tianjin, Xiaohu Island, and other key locations, supporting the company’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and strengthening its supply chain across key regions.

VENEX is actively greening its feedstock, including producing EU certified green methanol from biomass or waste tyres in Inner Mongolia and constructing a new plant in Foshan to support marine fuel demand in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Hong Kong, scheduled to begin operation in 2028.
